Our aim is to visit places of historic interest and gardens in the surrounding area.

Our Recent Visits

September 2026

Our final trip this year was to the Western Approaches Museum housed underground in central Liverpool in the original command headquarters of the Battle for the Atlantic during the Second World War. It was fascinating to see artifacts from this period, and the rooms with the original machines, equipment and plotting maps with descriptions of what life was like in there from the actual operators.

July 2026 Trentham Gardens

A talk by one of the gardeners gave us a brief history of Trentham and the recent redesigning of the gardens, which is still in progress, using planting techniques requiring less watering of plants. There was an opportunity to explore the gardens and take a walk through woodland and around the lake.

Weaver Hall Museum Northwich and the Anderton Boat Lift

After exploring the former work house and museum at Weaver Hall where the history of Northwich was revealed, we proceeded to the Anderton Boat Lift Centre and a boat trip on the River Weaver with an interesting commentary about the history of Northwich and the development of the chemical industry.

The group had most interesting tour led by knowledgeable and engaging guides around this Staffordshire Jacobean Farmhouse with insight into the way of life and living conditions experienced in that era,
